A Referral Doesn’t Guarantee Business
I’ve always believed there is something important about a referral that sometimes gets overlooked.
A referral doesn’t guarantee me the business.
It simply opens the door.
And honestly, that’s all I’m asking for.
If you know someone who is thinking about buying, selling, moving, investing or simply has questions about real estate, an introduction gives me the opportunity to have a conversation with them.
From there, it’s up to me.
You Don’t Have to Sell Them on Me
If you refer someone to me, I don’t expect you to convince them that I’m the right Realtor.
You don’t have to explain my experience.
You don’t have to tell them why they should list with me.
You don’t have to make a sales pitch.
Just introduce us.
Something as simple as:
“You should talk to Daine. He knows the Grande Prairie market and I think he could help.”
That’s enough.
I’ll take it from there.
The Referral Is the Opportunity
A referral gives me something I can’t create on my own:
an opportunity to earn someone’s trust.
Maybe they’re ready to sell tomorrow.
Maybe they’re six months away.
Maybe they’re just curious about what their home is worth.
Maybe they’re moving to Grande Prairie and don’t know where to start.
Maybe they aren’t even sure what they want to do yet.
That’s okay.
My job isn’t to pressure them into a transaction.
My job is to listen, answer their questions and provide value.
If I do that well, maybe I earn their business.
And if I don’t, that’s okay too.
Why Referrals Mean So Much
When someone refers me, they’re putting a little bit of their own reputation behind my name.
That’s something I don’t take lightly.
After more than 20 years in real estate, I’ve built a large part of my business through relationships.
People I’ve helped have introduced me to their friends.
Friends have introduced me to family.
Past clients have called me years later when life changes and they need help again.
That’s how a real estate business is built — one relationship at a time.
You Never Know Who Needs a Realtor
The person sitting beside you at work.
Your neighbour.
A friend whose kids are leaving home.
Someone going through a divorce.
A family member who inherited a property.
Someone relocating to Grande Prairie.
A young couple trying to figure out how to buy their first home.
You might hear someone say:
“We’re thinking about selling, but we don’t know where to start.”
That’s your opportunity to say:
“I know a Realtor you should talk to.”
Give Me the Chance
A referral doesn’t mean I get the listing.
It doesn’t mean I get the buyer.
It doesn’t mean the person will even choose me.
It simply gives me a chance.
A chance to meet them.
A chance to answer their questions.
A chance to show them what I can do.
And ultimately, a chance to earn their business.
That’s all I ever ask for.
So if someone you know is talking about real estate, don’t worry about selling them on me.
Just open the door.
Make the introduction.
I’ll take it from there.
And if I earn their business, I’ll be grateful for the opportunity.
Because a referral isn’t a guarantee.
It’s a chance — and I appreciate every single one.
