Every Decision Is Made Twice
Most decisions are made twice.
First, in your mind. Then, in reality.
Before you ever put your home on the market, make an offer, move to a new community or buy an investment property, you’ve probably imagined what it would look like.
You’ve thought about it.
You’ve talked about it.
You’ve played out different scenarios in your head.
And eventually, you make the decision real.
One of the most common things I hear from people considering a move is:
“I just couldn’t see myself doing that.”
Maybe they couldn’t see themselves leaving the neighbourhood they’ve lived in for 20 years.
Maybe they couldn’t imagine downsizing.
Maybe moving to a different community seemed impossible.
And then something changes.
The kids grow up. A job changes. A lifestyle changes. Priorities change. Or they simply realize that what worked for them ten years ago doesn’t necessarily work today.
Just Imagine…
This is where I like to have a simple conversation with clients:
“Just imagine.”
Just imagine what it would look like if you moved.
Where would you live?
What would your monthly expenses look like?
What would you do with the equity in your current home?
What neighbourhood could you live in?
What if you had less maintenance?
What if you had more space?
What if you could move closer to family?
What if the move actually gave you something you’ve been missing?
You don’t have to decide.
Just imagine.
Sometimes allowing yourself to consider a possibility without committing to it is enough to see things differently.
As a Realtor, I don’t believe my job is to convince someone to move. My job is to help them explore the possibilities, understand the numbers and determine whether a move actually makes sense for them.
After more than 20 years in Grande Prairie real estate, I’ve learned that some of the biggest moves start with a very small conversation.
“What if?”
You may not be ready today.
You may not move for another year—or five years.
But if you’ve ever caught yourself saying, “I just couldn’t see myself doing that,” is just you making a choice before voicing it. Sometimes, not being able to see yourself doing something is exactly the write choice in a given circumstance!
Sometimes you have to see the possibility in your mind before you’re ready to make it a fact.
