Will Your Realtor Still Be in Business When You’re Ready to Move?

Buying or selling a home isn’t always a decision you make overnight.

Sometimes, the conversation starts years before the move actually happens.

Maybe you’re thinking about downsizing once the kids leave home. Maybe you’re considering moving to a different community. Perhaps you’re building equity with the intention of making an investment purchase down the road.

You might not be ready today—but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t start the conversation.

Real Estate Is a Long-Term Relationship

One thing I’ve learned in more than 20 years in real estate is that timing is different for everyone.

Some clients call me months before they move. Others I’ve stayed in touch with for years before the timing finally becomes right.

That’s why I believe being a Realtor isn’t just about today’s transaction. It’s about building relationships and being there when your clients are ready.

And it raises an interesting question:

Will your Realtor still be in business when you’re ready to move?

Real estate is a competitive business, and not every Realtor who starts a career remains in the industry long-term. If you’re having conversations today about a move that might happen years from now, experience, longevity and staying connected can matter.

You Don’t Have to Be Ready

You don’t need to have a moving date.

You don’t need to know exactly where you’re going.

You don’t even need to know whether selling is the right decision.

Sometimes the most valuable conversation is simply:

“Here’s where we are today. Here’s what we’re thinking about. What should we be considering?”

From there, we can talk about your home’s current value, the market, potential improvements, future neighbourhoods, investment opportunities and what a move could look like financially.

My goal is to be the Realtor you can call before you’re ready, so that when the time does come, you aren’t starting from scratch.

After more than 20 years serving Grande Prairie, I’ve had the privilege of working with clients through multiple stages of their lives—and in some cases, more than one real estate transaction.

The best time to build a relationship with your Realtor isn’t necessarily when you’re ready to move. It can be years before that.

So ask yourself:

If you’re thinking about moving someday, who do you want to be talking to today?
